Indigo: Block Party Mews

Richmond, Texas

Summary

Block Party Mews is a lively, social green space designed to bring neighbors together around two of life’s greatest unifiers: celebration and food. At the heart of this mews is a shared outdoor kitchen pavilion, an inviting, open-air structure equipped with grills, prep space, sinks, and shaded seating, allowing residents to host everything from casual family dinners to large-scale neighborhood potlucks. Adjacent to the pavilion, a long communal table stretches beneath the canopy of native trees, offering a flexible and welcoming space for shared meals, birthday parties, holiday gatherings, or spontaneous weekend cookouts.

Community Spark

This mews is intentionally designed to foster connection through shared rituals and traditions, acting as a kind of modern-day front porch for the block. String lights, ambient seating nooks, and soft landscaping create a warm and festive atmosphere in the evenings, making it a natural gathering spot that hums with life and laughter.

Whether it’s a Saturday morning pancake breakfast, a Sunday afternoon barbecue, or a weeknight happy hour, Block Party Mews invites participation and sparks community spirit.

Surrounding the central gathering area are edible gardens and herb planters, offering fresh ingredients to complement shared meals while reinforcing the community’s relationship to food, land, and seasonality. Native and drought-tolerant plantings provide structure and beauty, while permeable paving and thoughtful drainage ensure the space remains resilient and easy to maintain.
