Jake Salzman grew up in a family greenhouse and farm, where he learned to read landscapes long before he learned to design them. Working alongside his father, he developed an early understanding of how land, people, and living systems shape one another, and how authenticity, curiosity, and care create value that lasts.

Those early experiences cultivating living environments formed a worldview grounded in patterns, alignment, and possibility. As Jake moved into professional practice, he expanded that lens through work on large-scale parks, urban districts, and communities, where he saw both the power of landscape architecture and the limitations of an industry too often shaped by convention, silos, and short-term thinking.

He founded CultivateLAND to create a different kind of practice, one that connects land understanding, strategic thinking, and design to shape healthier, more connected communities. His work is rooted in the belief that the best projects begin early, with a deeper understanding of how a place truly works and what it could become before major decisions are made. That early clarity helps uncover potential, challenge assumptions, and create more resilient, meaningful outcomes over time.

Jake leads with clarity, creativity, and an ability to synthesize complex layers into strong direction. He helps clients align vision, reveal opportunity, and carry thoughtful ideas from early site strategy through design and implementation, always with a focus on creating places that feel authentic, intentional, and alive. This emphasis on carrying ideas from early direction into realized place also fits CultivateLAND’s end-to-end framing from site strategy through design and construction support.
