Summary:

One year post-completion, we returned to Newfield in Martin County, Florida, to evaluate how the landscape and built environment have matured. This visit focused on the Pioneer Square district and the Farm Club, examining how the architecture, site furnishings, and plantings have weathered the regional climate. Longitudinal studies like this are vital for understanding the “performance” of a site, allowing us to see which materials and species have thrived since the initial installation.

notes:

  • Material Performance: We assessed how hardscapes and furnishings have handled a year of Florida’s high humidity and UV exposure. This helps validate which materials maintain their structural and aesthetic integrity in coastal environments.

  • Horticultural Maturity: At the one-year mark, we evaluated plant vigor and growth rates against our original design intent.

  • Site Furnishings & Use: We observed how the community utilizes gathering spaces and site elements. This real-world feedback ensures our layouts for social interaction and relaxation are functioning effectively for Newfield residents.
